Accused gunpoint Razr cell phone robber remanded

A young man who allegedly robbed another man at gunpoint of his Motorola V3 Razr cellular phone and was found with the weapon and ammunition was on Wednesday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.

Kurt Pereira, 20, of 39 Princes Street, Wortmanville pleaded not guilty to robbery under arms and two unlawful possession charges at the Georgetown Magistrate's Court.

It is alleged that on February 12 at Georgetown, while being armed with a gun Pereira robbed Khemraj Singh of a Motorola V3 Razr cell phone valued at $44,000. He allegedly on the same date had in his possession one .32 revolver and one .38 round of ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.

Attorney-at-law Euclin Gomes who represented Pereira told the court that the offences are bailable and that his client had recently completed his studies at the Critchlow Labour College and is in the process of looking for a job. Counsel added that his client has never been involved in any criminal activity and he received several gunshot wounds from persons who are not members of the police force. "He has more than four bullets in his right leg and I urge the court to temper justice with mercy. If the injury is not treated he runs the risk of losing his leg," Gomes said.

Police Prosecutor Maxine Graham asked that bail be refused since she said the weapon was discovered on his person and the offences are prevalent. She added that one of a number of public-spirited citizens had fired a warning shot and more shots were fired before he was arrested by those persons.

He was taken to the hospital, she said, and his injuries are not life threatening.

Gomes responded that no firearm was found on his client but a firearm was used on him. He asked that Pereira be admitted to bail so that he can receive proper medical treatment. Graham, however, stated that he will be able to receive treatment at the prison.

His case was transferred to Court Three for March 6.

Apple's iPhone to launch as Cingular-exclusive?

ccording to some juicy and totally unverifiable rumoring by Think Secret, Apple is prepping their "still totally unconfirmed but fairly likely to happen" iPhone as a Cingular exclusive for when it launches next January. The exclusivity, which will expire mid-2007, doesn't seem incredibly far-fetched given the ROKR exclusive Cingular scored last year -- not that it worked out too terribly well for them. Apple is also purportedly in talks with other carriers across the world, but no word if O2 is going to score the Europe exclusive again. Think Secret is also sticking with their story in regards to specs: a 2.2-inch display and 3 megapixel camera, and we figure we might as well throw HSDPA into the mix given the predicted Cingular launch. The word from "insiders" is that Apple is estimating shipments of 25 million or more iPhones in 2007 alone, which seems quite optimistic given the fact that Moto's RAZR took two whole years to hit the 50 million mark, but when it comes to Apple and potentially fabricated launch deets and market predictions, we suppose the sky's the limit.

Motorola Razr V3 - The Best Yet

When Motorola decided to bring out a new cell phone they decided to throw away the rule book and what they come out with has certainly begun to stand out from the rest.

The Razr V3 which is generally referred to as the Razr is considered by many to epitomise visually what is at the forefront of cell phone design and technology. The first thing that nobody can ignore with this product is how incredibly thin it is. With it only being 1.4 cm thick and 5.3cm wide (it is about the same width as the credit card you have in your wallet or purse) and it is only 9.8cm long, therefore making it one of the smallest and slimmest cell phones available in the market today. Plus with its distinct looks it is no reason why the Razr's popularity has continued to increase.

Also with its unique style and popular appearance the Razr is certainly not all flash and no substance. As well has being equipped with a digital camera, which has a quality zoom function that allows you to catch any moment you like, it also has the ability for the user to watch MPEG video clips in bright colours as well has having high quality sound being relayed through the polyphonic speaker. Although the screen is small, Motorola have still been able to include 3D graphics which help to make for an optimal picture experience.

Another reason why the Razr has been able to give such a high level of technology within this small package is the new "Bluetooth" technology that has also been included with this package. This apparently allows the Razr to carry out many of the tasks that are normally associated with larger cell phones.

Motorola has certainly come up with a winner this time. All too often you find that phone companies who try to give the public a flashy new design of phone ending up with a product that is all flash and no substance. This results in a large amount of their customers finding that they have purchased a dud and that it does not live up to the hype that the company has pushed on to them.
